Saturday

Today I joined a workout place and exercised for the first time in over a year.

My knees are killing me.

Then I had breakfast with ELL and bought new t-shirts, showered and had the shittiest commute across town in a while.

Met PG, a hour and a half late, on Markham Street and we hit Free Comic Book Day at the Beguiling. Didn't pick up any of the free comics but did pick up a couple of original Asterix & Obelix stories and a few issues of the three or four titles I haven't quite quit yet - Runaways, Hellboy, Strangers in Paradise, and 'cause she rules, Buffy.

After we walked along Bloor to the Varsity (my knees are killing me) and saw Spider-man 3 which wasn't a bad movie but wasn't a good one either. Unless you're hardcore about the character, there's nothing here worth paying $11.95 for (eff you, Cineplex). Actually, if you are hardcore about the character, you're probably better off skipping this one entirely and hoping that someone gets it together for Spidey 4. Not only will you save yourself $12, you won't spend an hour asking yourself why they bothered to introduce Gwen Stacey if they weren't going to do anything with her character. And I didn't love the fight and webslinging scenes. Maybe I've grown jaded but they struck me as busy and crowded rather than exciting - along the way Spider-man seems to have lost track of just how damn cool it is to be able to crawl up a wall and swing between skyscrappers.

Then dinner for me and beer for PG and then home to the couch.

Did I mention that my knees are killing me?

Also, if anyone's keeping track, I'm betting that Spidey's box office has already peaked - lousy reviews won't sustain a deep audience (my parents, for example, will be skipping this one and I won't be going again) and with the summer season just starting, I expect Spidey 3 will fade quickly compared to the previous two outings which could lead to a change in creative talent behind the camera if Sony/Columbia goes to the well for Spidey 4.

I think I shall rewatch all of Farscape this month.
