Went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix last night and quite enjoyed it, although it's a weirdly uneven and jerky film. It's the first third* of the films I've seen without reading the book first (because I found the first 10 pages of HP&tOotP so incredibly dreadful and desperately in need of a competent editor that I flung all 800-or so pages against the far wall and that was the last Harry Potter I read) and, especially in the first act, the movie cuts so abruptly from scene to scene that I had trouble following WTF was going on.

Things settled down a bit once the gang reached Hogwarts and Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood is a charming addition to the cast (and given the makeup of the group of six in the finale, I assume she's going to hook up with Neville - who I adore - right?) but overall, I thought Order of the Phoenix lacked cohesion. A more enjoyable film than Goblet of Fire, which I couldn't sit all the way through, and whatever No. Two was called, which was simply dreadful, but still miles behind Azkabhan, which is the only one of the five adaptations that really works independently of the books as a movie.

As for the coming Pottergeddon, I'm stocking the bunker with beer and chips. So far this morning, I've read three completely contradictory sets of spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I find it delightful. Of the three, I rather prefer the middle set but all three are plausible, which is rather the fun. There's a great kerfuffle ongoing about whether the scanned pictures of what purports to be a copy of HP&tDH are legitimate and how many pages are actually in each edition (UK/USA) and whether the page numbers and the font match. It's great wank and I'm enjoying it tremendously.

*I just realized that I'm pretty sure I read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone after seeing the movie (ELL? Do you recall? It was your copy I read, so...) and I skipped whatever No. Two was called entirely.
