I accept that Billy the iPod acting all wonky is the universe's way of telling me that bouncing it off the office floor every few days is bad for it. I get it.

My Powerbook deciding that it was now going to make an alarming popping-grinding-clicky sound every time I turn it on or plug it in (or play a movie), however, is purely unfair. I'm leaving for grad school in six weeks - I have no money and I need my computer. True, if it's going to die on me, now is better than later. Still...

Appointment at the local Apple Store this afternoon, where they will, I hope, look at it, listen to the noise and say "ah-ha, yes, that problem, we can fix that problem." And that that problem, whatever it is, is significantly less expensive than buying a whole new computer.

Wish me luck.

*crosses fingers*

I think I've just passed through some piratical rite-of-passage as the trailer for a film I've already watched via *a-chem* was just released today. Then again, it's a British film, which means there is weirdness in the release dates. Not alas, a particulary good film, even by my "I rewatch King Arthur every three or four months" standards.

So the Apple Store tells me that Veronica Mac, my shiny Powerbook, either needs a new logic board, in which case I get to spend a lot of money but get a shiny new computer, or new speakers, which will cost $1,000 less. So, hurray for Apple Store.

True, the best option is replacing the speakers but my inner magpie is already coveting a shiny new MacBook, so there's part of me that wouldn't be unhappy if I had to get a new computer. But I would really prefer that they were able to fix my baby. *pets Powerbook* I have other things I need to save that $1,000 for.

Still, at least the harddrive is okay, and I can spend the next few days leisurely backing up my music and video files. Frankly, there was worse news I could get.
