I just left someone a comment about Hannah Montana rimming the Jonas Brothers and last night, I flounced from the dining room table after a short, sharp confrontation with my brother, Captain Self-Righteous.

But so far, no I love has died and I haven't tried to cut my wrists, so this year can only be better in comparison, right?

I do have some resolutions, many of which failed to materialize today but I'm planning on doing a spiritual cleanse and recharge when I take a few days off later this week, so no big. Among them is a solid commitment to go back over this LJ and clean up all my unfinished fanfic prompts (including something I promised Starsy three years ago) and multipart posts that disappeared into the back of the lizard brain.

Oh, and I'm never going to finish Twilight. I find it quite literally unreadable, in case anyone was wondering. And by anyone, I mean A---.

PS - if you've never read "Something Positive", may I recommend November's "Kawai of the Damned" storyline"? SP is like the homeopathic cure for bitter cynicism.

An interesting opinion piece from the Independent about Somali Pirates. The comment section is full of the standard trollish bigots as seem to flock to newspaper websites the world over as the last places to tolerate their putrid drivel under the dubious banner of "free speech" (but I digress) and the essay is not sourced nearly as well as it should be (but it does largley jibe with reports from CBC radio and elsewhere). For all that, Johan Haari raises a good point, albeit almost by accident: there is a terrible hypocrisy on the part of Western nations prepared to leave nine million Somalis to starvation and violence but will send in a fleet of warships to protect oil tankers and passenger liners from the criminal enterprises that have arisen in Somalia's ruins.

And while I'm feeling contrarian (pissy), for fucksake, BBC, do something about his bloody hair - he looks like the bastard child of a marionette and Flock of Seagulls.

Meanwhile, I'm feeling well out of Doctor Who. While I don't think a TV producer has a responsibilty to make progressive casting choices just because it would be progressive, the casting of Pale-Face, the Stork Boy, does not excite me as a viewer.
