Woman and Comics: Digital Femme on Preserving the Sexy (or even that sex-hay). Sing it sister. And I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing a little more of the sexy in how male comic book characters are presented: secondary sexual characteristics, like pupils, should be for everyone.
electricland and I were ruminating on that particularly noxious strain of moral cowardice expressed by the but-because construction, i.e. "well, I consider myself a feminist but I wouldn't actually tell anyone because everyone thinks/knows feminists are all insert negative stereotype here." Rinse and repeat for the political/moral/religious/social issue or belief of your choice.
Look, people: either you stand for something or you don't; either you're counted in that number or you aren't. But everytime you offer up some mealy-mouthed prevarication as to how you really do believe X but never say so because of Y, you do a disservice to yourself and all the people who are prepared to stand behind their beliefs.
Or, put it another way, either put up or shut up and get the hell off my side.
